Download count thru the roof

This actually happened some time ago but I didn't think of posting it till now.

Anyone notice that their download counts have gone through the roof? Like a 10x increase in their download count overnight? My video claims to have gotten 7000 downloads, but only records 1700 hits (hits seem to be accurate). Now I know for a fact that if I had 7000 40meg downloads my server would be eating me alive right now for using up all their bandwidth.

I looked at other videos and they claim downloads like 10000 and 15000, and the really new ones say things like 400 and 500 downloads.

Was this intentional?

This is caused when morons copy the link into a program that will repeatedly hammer the link for god knows whatever reason.

Hey Frosty555,

Welcome to the wonder world of bandwidth-wasting "download accelerators". They try to open up 100 connections to your video every second and end up downloading about 20 copies of your video just for one person's download. They are nothing but bad news for servers.

Yeah. I remember from about 4 months back when that happened to this site. I think Phade put up a "no downxl's" notice on the frontpage.

I really really wanna help out with the site's downloads...but ooone question...how can i help? I told Phade that i'm getting ready to put together a nice storage machine and i'm also looking into the prospect of finding someway i can get the money together so i can use a server. Bussiness jargon*Shudder* it even follows me home from work. ^^;

Hey,

A storage server is the easy/cheap part. Bandwidth is the difficult/expensive part.
