Instumentally disturbed?
Back in 2006 or so when we could still nominate VCA categories, several suggested categories were denied because 'categories must not be based on source'. (That's not exactly what it said, but with the new VCA pages, I can't check, but that was the basic idea.) Yet we have had an Instrumental category for years now, which clearly relies on the music source.
Instrumental is fine as a genre, but why should it be a category in the VCAs? If it's really a judging of who tells a story best without lyrics, as some have suggested, why not just make it a Best Storytelling category?

I think it would be a good idea to add a best storytelling category.

I think most people have no idea that the best storytelling video should tell a story so why bother?

As evidenced by the lack of actual parody videos that make the list for best parody.godix wrote:I think most people have no idea that the best storytelling video should tell a story so why bother?

It's ok, Nostromo will keep "improving" and be the bestest story teller in the worldz. He's all we really need, right?

That really annoyed me, that should have been yours. Even if you hadn't won it shouldn't have gone to him. How about next year we include a dictionary so people can lean what the word 'improved' means? He was editor of the year in 08 and again in 09.. That is not an improvement, he was deemed the best and stayed the best once your on the top you either stay on top or go down. Don't get me wrong nostromos a great editor, but he was a great editor last year as well.Radical_Yue wrote: It's ok, Nostromo will keep "improving" and be the bestest story teller in the worldz. As for the topic, I think best story telling is a great idea. But I like instrumental being a vca category, editing without lyrics is a bit of a different bag and requires more work for your story to come across, I think with the implementation of a story telling category most instrumental vids would get overlooked and people would tend to go with whatever video followed the story of the song most.

Seriously though, just because you are the best it doesn't mean you have no capacity to improve. And he did improve, believe it or not. I'm not saying that he deserved to win moreso than other nominees, but I'm pointing out the flaw in your logic. Who "should" have won doesn't mean shit, the VCAs are nothing but a gauge of popularity for an editor, they are what the wider audience deems to be good viewing material. They do not mean one editor is better than another, and I suggest you stop treating it as such.
