Zarxrax has been running a "best of AMV Hell" poll for a while now on the AMV Hell site. Basically he's been chopping up the videos into chunks on a weekly basis and people choose which clip they liked best out of the current chunk.

I was just thinking that it might be interesting to apply something like that here, a running poll...randomly choosing, say, 2 through 5 amv's on the .org at a time and asking people to choose their favourite. It could be done in a purely random fashion, or we could do it within the available categories.

The main draw for me with this idea would be exposure---there are so many vids on the site here and a lot of them get lost in the sheer volume. It would showcase lots of different videos by people that may not get an audience otherwise.

Thoughts?

the hard part is figuring out how to choose the videos, who chooses them?

or would it be an entire random model?

would they be from all the videos in the database? or just the ones with download links? or just the local ones?
would they be from the ones uploaded in the last month? or are there any other specific eliminations you would put on the vids chosen? etc.

95% of the videos on the org suck and have no redeemable features. So if you randomly pick five videos odds none of them would be watchable much less enjoyable. Do that the first week and no one bothers watching or voting the second week.

So I guess I'm saying it sounds like a fair amount of work to setup something that'll only last a week.

Maybe something a long of the lines of top 5, "New Vid On The Block's Most Downloaded for the Week" of some sort O.o

(That would be the most sensible way I could think of working it)

But I think it would still be much more of a pain in the ass than it's worth.
