In all seriousness, I should probably clarify that I am impartial to my studio mates when it comes to moderating. To avoid conflicts of interest, I'd ask another mod/admin to handle a situation if one comes up.

For the most part Scintilla is correct, the administration will contact people to make sure they are responsible and trustworthy enough for the position, if additional mods are needed. Therefore, meeting people in person can greatly help (or possibly hurt) you. In my case, I was very active in the help forums, and at Jacon 2004 I told Paizuri in somewhat of a side comment that I would be willing to help out the site in a greater capacity if needed. Several months later on New Years Eve he contacted me with a bunch of questions to make sure I was the right for the job.
For now, we currently are not looking for new mods... even if we were, we look at a lot of things besides volunteering for the position before we start contacting people. Oh, and now that I'm now in similar shoes, please don't ask me at cons. I'm rather horrible when it comes to names and faces and I'm there to have a good time and not really worry about the org.

But in Brazil we have cachaça.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.
