creating a "back of screen" layer

Post by BasharOfTheAges » Fri Oct 27, 2006 1:24 pm

I'm attempting to create a "back of screen" layer for a video segment. something that will realistically have depth and be removed from character interaction on screen but would "catch" objects or substances thrown at it. I have Photoshop CS 2, Premiere Pro 1.5, and AE 7 at my disposal. I know i'll have to work with layers in some way, but i'm at a complete loss as to how I can create that kind of perspective that you'd associate with a screen.

To clarify, by screen interaction I mean "I want to make it look like the characters can throw stuff at the viewer and it'll hit the monitor layer."

Any suggestions? I'm planning on working with blood splatters if it makes any difference.

i would say just don't bring any object forward past a certain distance. once the reach that measurment, have them stop and fall, bounch back, ect.

I would try a combination of 3d layers and a camera in After Effects. Right clicking on each layer and you can choose 3d layer, then you can rotate, position and scale on the z-axis, using keyframes you should easily be able to make a character throw something that hits the camera. Probably be some fine tuning to make it look realistic though. Adding a camera to the scene might help with getting the effect to look right but might be just as easy or easier without.

You may want to check out my video I did for VG3 project: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=89492

All the blood was created with Trapcode particular. It has the ability to have particles "stick" to a layer, so you can just put an invisible layer in front of the camera and shoot blood particles onto it.

I should have probably gone with my first instinct and just IMed you instead of posting this.

I'll definately look into this though, thanks :)

And thanks to the others for giving suggestions too.
