I haven't had any problems (fingers crossed) working with XviD in MEP 10+, but I've been accessing the files via AviSynth scripts. Don't know whether or not that makes a difference.

I'd recommend Magix for a starting program. The basic stuff is all drag-and-drop and it's easy to add pics, video clips, and fancy (ie. cheesy :P ) transitions and effects. The advanced stuff is tucked away in the context menus, and while this makes the program less overwhelming at first it makes not learning the main keyboard shortcuts a bad idea.

Yeah it does. Avisynth does all the decoding so the editing program doesn't fall over itself. Makes it slow sometimes though.

Ah, thanks. Didn't want to make an 'AviSynth solves your DivX / XviD woes!' post without knowing for sure that it was AviSynth keeping the frames straight.
