Problems with compression

Post by Hagaren Viper » Sun Oct 08, 2006 3:30 pm

So I just finished an AMV, and have saved it as a AVI using Sony Vegas 0.6. The problem is, the finished file came out to be VERY big, since I'm trying to keep as much quality as possible. Problem is, I can't seem to shrink it without losing lots of quality.

I heard VirtualDub could compress videos, so I downloaded that and tried it. The only setting that made the video go lower than 1 GB was a Divx one, but the video quality suffered horribly. That's the only way i really know of compressing videos, so could someone please help me out? Thanks in advance.

From Bauzi:

If you want to go with the future... XviD is very good, but this one is much better, but much more harder to handle:

I recommend x264!

did you follow the instructions in the guide?
if you don't do everything that it says, your video will be harder to compress and you won't get as good of a result.

Yeah. I'll try a few more things later, I've got it down to 120 mb now. So i'm almost there, I suppose.

Alriiiiiiiiiight, I think I have the hang of it now. I'll probablly test it a couple more times, but I'm pretty sure I'm good now. Thanks for your help, everyone!
