Image

here's the screenshot of my editor as I'm doing exactly what I described - I first created a totally black image and a totally white image; overlapped the two and exported an AVI of it; improrted it back into the editor and made it into an Alpha channel; and placed one pic file above and one pic file below it.

this is the video clip it generated (xvid, small file, under 200k).

one thing that might be the problem is that the Alpha channel is directional in MEP - meaning that you can reverse which way the alpha channel works by clicking on the arrow on it at the far left of the clip (right now, mine is pointed down towards the anime image).

I hope this helps

It's an effect. You can use it how you like. You can do some nifty stuff with it though. Piano keys are possible with this, for example.

Alpha channels allow you to descretly mask items in or out of the scene. The transition I shown above is just an example as you can do that easily enough with MEP by just overlapping your clips, but you can do so much more with alpha channels / masking.

AFAIK, the steps that I listed above should be the same for MEP2004 and 10, so I don't know why yours is not working. I posted a Q for you on the MEP BBS that I linked before and all the responses seem that this is the case.

Here is a link to someone elses website that shows you what you can do with alpha channels and masking:

click on the Masking tab and the transitions tabs for more info
