using AVISynth? hmm, don't know that one, but I know it's possible (as someone here told me how, but I had already done it another way).

If you are adding blank spaces to enter into a convention, what I did was encode my video as an mpeg2 file, then I created various length blank black leaders and encoded them the same way as my AMV file. Tmpegenc has a neat little feature in the 'file' menu called 'mpeg tools'. Then, click on the 'merge and cut' tab and you can then add your black bumper to the front and back of your video, then output it as a new, custom mpeg file. It doesn't re-encode it so its really fast.

the main thing you'll have to watch is that you use the same encoding profile for both your video and your bumpers, and I do not think you can use VBR mode (I think).

hope that helps

ya i know about TMPGEnc but how do i put the bumper... if u could explain it more clearly. that would be more helpful.

Also while I'm at it what is Layer II Audio?

well, first create your black bumpers (mine started at 2 seconds and went up to 5). Next, encode them using the same profile as your AMV. With Tempegenc using the 'merge and cut' tool, select the appropreate length black bumper, then your AMV, then your closing black bumper. All you have to do next is give it an output path and name in the box below and hit the 'run' key and you're done!

Layer II audio is sort of like an MP3 file, just a different way of encoding it. It is used primarily for mpeg files as AVI files can be muxed with mp3's.

And just a piece of advice - after you encode your AMV with Tmpegenc, demux the audio out of it and then mux it with an audio file that you have processed yourself (using BeSweet, or whatever audio processor you are using to make the layer II audio file). Tmpegenc's audio encoder is crap IMHO and creates audio files that are on the large size as well as too tweaked out (sounds like the audio file needs to be normalized, even if your source was already normalized). I just trash the audio file and mux my own file back in - beter quality sound and smaller in size too.

hope this helps
