Thanks to all!

MPEG2Cut - got it, but it doesn't work with VOB files...? I know the information in them is MPEG2, but I seem to be missing something here...

Storyboarding - I don't think I have that kind of discipline. :/ Most of the best stuff I've done is by surprising myself, coming across something that works during the editing process.

Also, the problem I've run into with cutting clips in VDub (also to address Farlo's suggestion) - WTH codec do you use? HuffYUV is way too big, I think. (I made a test clip, and it was ...I want to say 75 MB for a 5-second clip, something like that? That's very large.) It has to be good quality, or people will complain, and it has to play nice with Premiere. I'm at a loss as to what codec fulfills all of that. I use MJPEG for my bait-and-switch files usually, but the video quality isn't all that hot.

I'll look at VicBond's guide, though, thank you. For all I know it addresses this, heh. Haven't read that one yet.

And yeah, remastering is a concern too. But I had also thought that if I did go that route, working from partial AVIs, I'd archive those in the end anyway.

Thanks a lot, all. I'll read that guide and see if it answers this question.
