AVI file opening problem

Post by bn199 » Sun Nov 28, 2004 10:29 pm

I have Adobe Premiere 6.5. I tried to open a AVI file and something pops up and it says, "Unable to open that file. File uses an unsupported compression format." What can I do and how can i fix it?

Did you compress the .avi file yourself or did you get it from somewhere?

use virtualdub to convert it to a CODEC that Primiere can understand.

LossLess codec's work best with Adobe. http://free-codecs.com/

people have had a lot of luck with one called Huffy2 ...

virtual dub dosent understand the CODEC either and it says 'Couldn't locate decompresser for format 'XVID' (unknown) VitualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable'
