Avid products are not just programs. They're hardware and software bundles.

The only reasons why anyone would use such a system to make an AMV are

(1) they have access to such equipment at school or work, or
(2) they have more money than brains and need to compensate for weaknesses with the power of Brand-Name.

Thats not completely true, they have avid xpress for windows and mac. It cost around $1,200...if your a student it will cost you around $320.00

Now in order to answer your question, "Does anyone use avid to edit AMV?" Well, I do..........not use avid xpress pro. Its hard making amv with avid. But I am going to try one day soon to make amv using avid to become familiar with the product.

I tried Avid Xpress Pro...
Downright the most strange, broken, most difficult to use thingy I have ever tried.

Avid Xpress Pro is the cream of the crop. The best editor out there I would say. Making only amvs in it would be overkill so to speak.

You better want to make more things with Avid other than AMVs. It would just not be right.

In any case, Avid is awesome. I love the program. I used to hate it and thought exactly as Zarxrax did. But I was kind of forced to learn it. And now I love it. I would love to make an AMV with it. Try it out. It will be difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, things will get easier.

Avid is not something that I would recommend picking up to use to make AMVs with. The Avid (at least the Media Composer suite I edited a wedding video on) is far more grounded and (IMO) hindered by its ties to the past and linear editing than are most more 'modern' programs. If you're looking to build/buy a new system and just make AMVs- save yourself a whole lot of time, frustration, and money and either get Premiere, Vegas, or (if you're running a Mac) Final Cut Pro. If your only equipment to edit with is an Avid suite that you have access to through work or school though, there isn't really any reason you shouldn't use it if you want to. It is quite possible to make an AMV with an Avid system- my wife made a Blue's Clues music video back in college on their Avid. Also, if you're looking to make editing a career for the future, it may be to your advantage to start early and learn to use an Avid right off the bat- though FCP has been making inroads, most professional outfits still edit on Avid suites. But for hobbyists- there are far less expensive and more intuitive and easy to learn options that are just as powerful and more flexible.
