Slow motion?
In Premiere 6.0, is there anyway to make a clip go in slow motion that doesn't make it somewhat choppy using the "speed" adjustment? I just have this particle moving along a path and when i reduce the speed to 25%, it's not so smooth. Any way to smooth it out?

Using the playback rate/velocity adjustment in Vegas and I think most editors does not create "inbetween" frames or doesn't create them well one of the two.
Your best bet is to re-render the particle effect (i'm assuming it's like some kind of After Effects job, but I dont' know) at a higher framerate than your average 24-30fps setup. That's how they do it the movies, they take high speed cameras that capture at 120fps+, so that when it's played back at "normal" speed you get a smooth look.
So then you take your new rerendered 60/120FPS particle shot, THEN telll the program to play it back at 1/2 or 1/3 speed.
Helpful?

Its hard for the guy to use vegas's velocity envelope when he's usiing premierEarendil18 wrote:Using the playback rate/velocity adjustment in Vegas and I think most editors does not create "inbetween" frames or doesn't create them well one of the two.

I've heard that most programs blend frames togeather when they're slowed down. not sure what that means, but its probably just a quick crossfade transition between each frame.

If it's just a particle - taking that literally - then you could set it up as a simple still picture. Then use the motion settings to "move" it across the screen. This requires an inverted way of looking at it, but the program will generate all the in-between frames it needs to keep the motion smooth at the set frame rate.

Premiere Pro blends frames on speed changes, unless you uncheck the "Frame Blend Speed Changes" box. Then it'll just duplicate or discard frames as necessary.bum wrote:Its hard for the guy to use vegas's velocity envelope when he's usiing premierEarendil18 wrote:Using the playback rate/velocity adjustment in Vegas and I think most editors does not create "inbetween" frames or doesn't create them well one of the two.

I don't think older versions of Premiere have the frame blending option. It's a nice thing to have sometimes.
