Problems with extractor and ISO

Post by Mitsukai Mizu Amaya » Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:37 pm

I want to gather the cutscenes from Xenosaga I, Xenosaga II, and Xenosaga III. I'm on Xenosaga II right now, since I is lend out to a friend at the moment. I used DVD Decrypter to get the ISO off the first disc of Xenosaga II. I decided to skip the splitting step because that can be done in VDUB later and I've got enough room on the hardrive for it. But when loaded into my Nova Software Extractor, it pretty much stops at exactly 31%. After looking through the PS2 ripping guide, I have figured out that it appears to not work for Xenosaga. Is there any way to extract the files? Also, would I need to use a different method for each Xenosaga. I plan on trying III now to see if it works, but since they are from the same company and are the same franchise, I doubt it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this. It's called pss cutter. Simply extract the .exe file. Then drag and drop the iso's into the exe file and wait. It *should* scan and rip the .pss files from the games automatically. Good luck.

I'm not entirely sure on this, since i have not tried it myself, but from what i've read as well as supposedly on the back of the Xenosaga II case it shows that the videos are in Softdec Video format.

What i suspect you have to do is extract all these files out, conveniently the people over at PS2MODZ made a tool.

Program:

Plugin:
http://www.alucard.cc/forums/index.php?topic=1102.0

and supposedly this program puts the two together, but its a beta, so i'm not sure if it is bug-free

Maybe try some personal research?
I'm going to probably try and see if i can extract it, just have to find my disc first.

Eheheh. I'm running PSS cutter now, and it seems to be working on the Episode II ISO. But man, is it going fast 0.0.

How do you know it's done? And if it doesn't work, I'll try Avdcptr's method, because it Sofdec.

It doesn't work. T.T

The PSS cutter starts fine, but when it's done, I can never find the pss files!

And the console ripper is confusing; is there a guide to it somewhere?

eh, not rly just have to kinda guess...

you have to get the files they ask for off your disc, combine them in the way they ask using a .bat (batch) file, so those become your big/chunk/munge files.

then you have smaller files that act as table files, which map out where each resource is in the big file. so loadup the table file, make a LBA txt (which from my guess just decrypts the mapping) and then you can extract from the chunk

so far i started extracting some and got some .ADX sounds, but it takes too long for me to copy the big files, and for some reason my ISO prog is reading discs slow, so if i get any leads i'll share.

sorry to double post...

but for some reason my comp decided to be generous, and the ISO ripped in 10 minutes, compared to before it was saying it'd take >1hr.

I used the Xenosaga II Beta tool and basically followed its instructions.

what i got was all the resources in Xenosaga.11 - 14

in that is .sfd files, which are softdec video files, after a hunch i just renamed the extension to .pss and demuxed, and it went to a .m2v and .wav and .dat, i'm unsure what the .dat is, possibly subtitles or left over data since the .sfd isn't a real .pss, but the mpeg2 video file plays fine in MPC, with sound. The only issue is that I had to override the aspect ratio to 5:4 for the video to look right.

I haven't played the game in a while, but the video looks a little grainy, and i'm not sure if that's just how it is, and i dont remember the PS2 graphics being so grainy (especially after playing lots of 360) or if its that its on the computer and not scaled and smoothed by a tv screen or if its an actual video codec issue.

I included one of the smaller .sfd renamed already as well as demuxed already as evidence or for your experimentation.

M'kay, the only problem I really had was following the instructions. I don't know how to extract the files with crc or where to put the lines of code in the instructions, since I am on Vista and a working DOS appearently is difficult to find on it. >>
Though I was able to rip a bit a footage from XSIII using the PS2 method in the FAQ, and your right; the footage is extremely horrid and grainy. Even downloaded scenes looked better.

it seems there's some fake mpeg header in the .11 u/c version.
straight forward rip on jp.
fix with hex editor ;)
you need to stitch the last from .11 to the first .12 and so on.
