What is THE BEST capture/ripping dvd software for Windows Vista? One that can properly crop out subtitles & widescreen out of footage the best?

unless your subtitles are hard encoded into your video you shouldn't need to worry about cropping out subtitles.

as for ripping its a process, I don't think you will find a "single program" that can do all that..

1 rip the dvd
2 dgindex
3 avisynth

and depending on how you want to edit depends on what you do next:

4 edit with avisynth scripts

OR

4 convert to lossless
5 edit with lossless files

With avisynth you can crop, resize and do whatever it is you need to do to fix the aspect ratios and what not...

all the programs you will need are in the amvapp found here on the org...
