FFX FMV conversion help...

Post by museofnorthwind » Sat Aug 07, 2004 10:46 am

x_x I'm new, so please excuse me if this is in the wrong place.

Using ffx2mov, I successfully ripped my FFX FMVs. However, I use Windows Movie Maker to make my AMVs and it can't read the m2v files. Is there a good program I can use to convert the m2vs to avi or mpeg? Or is there a better movie maker program that reads m2vs?

Any help is appriciated.

There sure is. You need a problem called DVD2AVI. You can download it off of doom9.org. Open it up and go to File and Open, and open the M2V files. Then go to Save as AVI. I'd suggest saving as HuffYUV (which can be found via a google search) or Uncompressed for the codec. Viola!

Good luck with your video ^_^

Okay, I'll try those. Thanks!

...Unfortunately, I seem to have a new problem. Just recently, I noticed that when I tried to play an FMV avi file I had Windows Media player sudden said it encountered an unknown error o_O; The funny thing is, they played perfectly fine before. Same thing with DivX - except I can watch the video, just not hear the sound.

...Plus, now I can't import the files into Movie Maker! Aaargh!

I hate to be a bug but... help?

Sorry for the double post, but... Argh.

I don't think the DVD2AVI is working for me. I tried to save it, but it was done instantly and when I tried to play it, it said it's corrupt or it can't support it. Plus it's an AVI file so I doubt it would work either way...

Can someone tell me how to fix my media player? It just... suddenly stopped 'supporting' my AVI files. Like my above post says. This computer is brand new and I really am scared to mess it up...

For DVD2AVI, try clicking on "video" at the top, then go to "Colorspace" and click "RGB". This is how I got it work work, because it would do that same thing with me on its default setting which is "YUV". Also, what codec are you exporting as? DVD2AVI doesn't like some codecs I have found (ie, XviD).

As for media player, I dunno what to tell you about that...make sure you have the codecs for what you're trying to play installed.

Sorry, but that was such a ironically funny typo I couldn't live on without pointing it out.

Thanks for all the help, I appriciate it!

I'm gonna that when I get back home to my computer. I noticed sometimes when playing back the ripped FMVs, especially in "Believe", the movie framse seem to freeze, but the player still registers it as reading... x.x Nothing is ever simple, is it?

In regardance to my media player... It's weird, becuase it worked in playing AVIs before. But just all of a sudden it won't... very odd.

Just out of curiosity, what Operating System are you using (IE, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac, Linux, Unix, ect.)?

i think its alright to use huffyuv with dvd2avi, but not with xvid or any other lossy codec. using lossy meant for final version, not as an intermediate. and for final versio you need to do some at least light denoising (which should apply for this source). :)
