Help with Cowboy Bebop : The movie DVD

Post by Shun » Sat Nov 22, 2003 5:18 pm

Well it started when i put the dvd in my computers dvd drive. Usually when i do this a little menu opened up asking which program i wanted to play the dvd in. However this time it didnt. So I opened Windows media player which i usually play dvds in, and it gave me the following error...

Code: Select all

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection.
Seeing as how i was going to be using the footage in an amv anyway i loaded up smart ripper and it gave me this error upon reading the dvd...

Code: Select all

Some files are still locked! Try to unlock with a player
When i was making my RK video i ran into this problem with a couple of DVDs. However i fixed it by skipping around in a player on the computer. Seeing as how i was unable to do that i poped it into the PS2 and tried the same thing. I then brought it back to my computer and got the same errors.

If anyone knows how to solve this it would be greatly apreciated, thanks!

ive had this problem when working with a couple of DBZ dvds but it happend after i ripped the footage. first i deleted the ripped footage then i restarted the computer. sometimes restarting the computer helps. at least for me. or you could be missing components that are unable to play your dvd. which also happend to me. but restarting the computer should help it. if it happend after ripping the footage. delete the rips then restart the computer then try ripping again. if not kick the computer.

No, restarting wont help. You need to use a real sofware dvd player (aka.. not wmp) to unlock the drive before you can rip it. I'm guessing the 'problem' with wmp is css.. in that case unless the rest of your dvds are bootlegs you should've gotten this error a lot in the past.

Play it in powerdvd or windvd and try again.

The Cowboy Bebop movie is what's known as a "Region 1 Enhanced" DVD, meaning it checks to see if it's being played in a regionless player before it's played. If it's in a regionless player, it will not play.

It's possible that your DVD-ROM drive and/or Windows Media Player does not have a region setting.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

In that case, a true rip (as opposed to trying to play the DVD in a player) should have no problems extracting the video. To play it in a player, you need one that either doesn't understand menu code at all, or that can be configured to look like a real single-region (not region-free) player from the inside.

This wouldn't be a problem under Linux, where all three options are easily available...
