Super Screenshots?

Post by Asalyn Po » Fri Jun 06, 2003 7:14 pm

My computer has a DVD player, and when I watch DVDs on my computer using PowerDVD. I can take screenshots with this player, however, the quality is TERRIBLE IMHO

I went trudging through the guides looking for something to help me, but short of downloading a bunch of programs to rip the DVDs, seperate the vobs...etc...etc...to get quality stills from the DVD footage (a bit much for what I want I thought), I didn't see anything. I then went and did a search in the forums, but again, I didn't find anything. So I did my searching, but essentially came up empty. Maybe someone out there has an answer!

Is there a super fast way to get quality screenshots straight from a DVD? Is there some magical program that will allow me to do this? Help would be much appreciated!

You might wanna download and try out some programs from http://www.download.com. Type in something like "screenshot" into the search engine and a number of things should pop up. The software listed on that site usually have a buncha neat features like taking shots of individual windows. But if you're just looking to take a shot of your entire desktop (everything you see on-screen), then you might as well just use the Print Screen button on your keyboard. You can then paste it into a program such as MS Paint or Photoshop for editing and compressing. Otherwise, a screenshot-taking program I recommend is !Quick Screen, but it lasts for only about a month (likewise with some the other fancy ones). :?

I tried that but the programs I found all put a bug mark on the screenshot unless I was willing to shell out money for it. For what i want to do, I don't really want to have to pay for a program. I didn't see any freeware there that would work for me. MAybe I just missed something though. :(

:\
the only way to get a better shot than powerdvd can is to rip the footage and IVTC it yourself, and then save it in some lossless codec and framegrab from vdub.
Definitely not an ideal solution |:

Try Irfanview. It's free and not too shabby.

Launch the program, go to Options, choose Capture, and click Start. Get to the section of the DVD you want to take a screenshot of, pause it, and hold Ctrl, then press F11. Then cut out the section of the image (assuming it shows up) you want and save it.

Worth a try, at least.
I'm out...
