Capture loss in quality problem

Post by SilverGladeDragn » Fri Apr 11, 2003 4:49 pm

Ok I'm doing a video using halflife pc game footage, and so i'm hooking my labtop up the tv and then recording the game footage to my sony dcr-trv140 hi8 digital handicam, and then capturing it to my desktop, (through a firewire card) where i do my editing. however the qualtiy of the footage captured to my computer is all grainy and pixelated, but when i play the recorded footage back on my tv its crisp and looks fine. I do not have a capture card, and am captureing in personal studio 3.0.

My system is as follows.
Pentium 4 1.4Ghz processor
512mb RAM
20Gig 7200 hard drive
60Gig 7200 hard drive
120Gig 7200 hard drive
16mb ATI Rage AGP graphics card
and of course the fire wire card.

I'm thinking that its the video card but i dunno, if its a capture card that i need could someone please tell me how its different than a video card and capturing through a firewire card. (the firewire and videocard are seperate just in case you dont know) Could someone please help me?

oops forgot I am capturing the footage as either uncompressed quicktime files or as DV files. if that matters...
