God, I know how you feel, I've been here over a year and I'm still trying to figure it out. I downloaded it the other day so that I can read it when I'm offline, and I'm starting to come to understand it. Its written for people who have some prior knowledge of video and digital editing, but you can understand it if you keep reading it and rereading it. AD and ErMaC put alot of work into it and it shows. Its a good guide.fonque wrote:that guide was deffinatley a good read, got anymore like that for beginners?

but actually i have another question. I have been trying to figure out this statement for the last 3 days and i dont see how it correlates to the description of 24fps progressive converted to 59.94 fields per sec

This is why when you're normally watching Anime (traditionally produced on Film which is 24 Progressive Frames a second) and you see a pan that's done in 59.94 fields a second (such as in the new Sol Bianca) you immediately go "Whoa - that was smooth."

It's not converted.
If you animate at 24fps you have 48 fields a second where every 2 fields are part of the same frame of animation, which doesn't help it be smooth. When it's telecinied up to 29.97fps these frames are just duplicated more so, again, no increase in smoothness.
If you animate at 59.94fps every field is a completely unique image, which means when it's interlaced to 29.97fps it looks incredibly smooth on a tv.
