capture or dvd ripping? that is the question

Whats better capture or dvd ripping? I know it depends on the capture card, but lets say i have a dv500 would it be better if i capture or i rip from the dvd? thanks

I believe this question has been asked before, but I would say that if the source is DVD, ripping is always better. It's simpler and cleaner. If this is a LaserDisc vs. DVD issue well then that depends on the DVD and LaserDisc in question. There are some rather poorly mastered DVDs floating about.

I seems from your post that the source would be DVD either way.
In that case, definitely ripping.

1) You're not likely to do better than a straight digital transfer.
2) Ripping usually goes faster than realtime, IOW you can rip the DVD at 4x-16x the program length.
3) You can use the awesome power of the newly updated Guide to the fullest extent by ripping.
