Starting out, looking for hardware, suggestions needed

Post by Stryyder » Mon Nov 28, 2005 6:31 pm

Ok, here's the deal. I've been working on AMVs with WMM for a while now and now I have premier but I hate working with hand-me-down clips downloaded from someone who downloaded it from 10 others so now it looks like crap. I'm looking to get a Capture device and I need suggestions on which one to get. Right now I'm looking at Adaptec PCI AVC-2010. Any pros or cons?

why do you need a capture card?
if you want to use downloaded footage...don't
if you want to use dvds, you need a dvd player.
the rest of the software that you need can be found in the amvapp

yeah, you'll need a capture card for the vhs footage
there's a guide on how to use video game footage, just click on the how-to-guides button in your members main page.
Plextor ConvertX Digital Video Converter
Model: PX-AV100U
this seems to do the same thing, for $20 less
other than that I can't really say much about capture cards ^_^;

No. That converter uses a software MPEG2 encoder. You'd need a really strong comp to get a full res vid. The Adaptec solution has a hardware MPEG2 encoder, so it's ensured that you can capture in full res. I think that feature is worth the $20 difference.

Thanks for your suggestions, now I just have to fix my dvd player. Stupid drive won't open. Any further suggestions are welcome.

if you have a DV camera with A/V input and firewire connection to your PC then you can just use that to capture footage from the VHS
