Recovering Data
One of my HDs has gone bad and I'm looking for a way to either fix it, or at the very least recover all my files from it. It seems there are 8 or 9 bad sectors and a corrupted data allocation table table. I have tried a couple programs to try and recover my data but all the ones I've found so far can only view the files, not recover them. If anyone knows a way to either fix the data allocation table/bad sectors or of a free program that will let me recover my data it would be extremely helpful.

NTFS
By the way I forgot to mention that my HD is in NTFS format.

Solution
The program Partition Table Doctor, relatively cheap (and you may be able to find a free version that works) is able to repair broken partition tables and boot sectors enabling the computer to read that the disc exists. At this point data recovery is possible using a free DOS-based program called findntfs (google it). Using PArtition Table Doctor to regain detectability of the drive will also allow you to reformat the drive which, I am told, can sometimes fix bad HDs. I have not finished recovering the data on my HD yet, but when I do I will see if a reformat fixes the disk and post the results here, so if anyone else has this problem they can find out how to fix it easier than I.
