DIMM slots

Post by Akashio » Mon Apr 11, 2005 4:59 am

When a Motherboard specification says: "Support 2 DIMM up to 2GB Max." Does that mean the total limit is 2GBs or each stick can be up to 2GB?

The maximum is for the motherboard as a whole; you'll see "3 DIMM, 3GB max" occasionally, and obviously 3GB isn't a power of 2. I'm not certain there exist many consumer boards that can address more than 1GB per DIMM.

Kai is correct....it means that is the total that the mobo can support. You have a 2 gig limit, that is the max for the whole enchilada.
