Whats the best capture card to get?

Hi I've been really wanting to start making music videos with a resolution of 720*480.[ripping dvds would just be a pain in the butt to me. cause then have to convert the.vob files into avis I'd like to stick with a capture card its much easier to capture just footage to you want]

The capture card I have right now can't even capture anything higher then 320*240. [I have WinTV-GO so yeah I've read other reviews that it can't and I've tried it drops frames and makes lines in the video making it look like crap and you cant capture it at 720*480]

I was just wandering what is the best capture card to get to be able to capture video at 720*480? [and the price of it too]

If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it!!! ^_^

DVD ripping is ALWAYS superior to capturing, AND less of a hassle.

And editing with AVI files is ALWAYS gona be sub-par.

sorry but I don't like ripping its a pain.. I want to know whats the best capture card to get.

I've had win tv-go for over 3 years now I believe and I've only been capturing at 320*240 as .avi's uncompressed. It has good quality capturing it at the 320*240 resolution. But now I want to be able to capture 720*480 resolution and keep the same excellent quality.

If I don't get any help from here thats ok and I appreciate it for someone replying ^_^

I'm about to just go to a computer store and ask about whats the best capture card to get to be able to capture video at 720*480 resolution.

its less of a hassle to capture than it is ripping.

I've ripped dvds before and I don't like it now. I was going to start trying it again but I don't want to now. u.u;;

No, really, ripping is always preferable. Read the guide. You don't have to convert to edit, there are ways around that.

Your quality will be much higher with ripping, too.

quality can be high capturing too if you have the right capture card so I don't know whats the difference.

I redownloaded AMVapp and Smart Ripper. Not sure if I'm going to use it. Because it is a pain to pretty much rip the whole dvd just to get maybe just one part of the footage you want. but I guess it could be easy if you get used to it. But I think some dvds it won't let you rip them so do you need to install that dvd decryptor thing from the amv app?

I read the guide onto using avisynth to be able to open up the vob files in adobe premiere 6.0 without converting but it seems confusing to me even when i did read it. lol

What other stuff do you think I should install?

Cause I'm not sure on to just install avisynth or all the things it has in the amv app.

I was just wandering do you know if you can capture 720*480 resolution video as .avi's uncompressed? [I know it would have a big file size. but I'm going to soon get a bigger hardrive I have a 160 gb and thats still not enough for video-editing. lol]

Capturing involves a D:A and a A:D conversion - there will be a loss of quality involved.

As for what you need, I think the AMVapp should cover everything. If you use VirtualDubMod, you can covert select scenes to uncompressed or HuffYUV or other lossless AVI without too much effort (this requires use of DGIndex and AVS).

If you are dead set on using a capture card, I'd recommend the Compro Video Mate Ultra, mostly based on the testing done by Richard Berg, who is very knowlegsable about that sort of stuff.

There's a lot of other pages about video capture on that site as well.

That said, DVD ripping is about 879032450234 times better than analog capture, the new amv.app and guide is very comprehensive and well done, and it is soooo worth learning to do stuff that way.
