$300 media center -- for real?

Post by remsleep » Wed Feb 16, 2005 2:07 pm

I was looking into what it would take for me to be able to play HDTV encodes of my own on an HDTV. This is a media center that actual advertises XviD (!) amongst the supported formats, claiming it can handle up to 8Mbs (15Mbs for MPEG-2, is that really enough for HD?)

I havent tried yet, but how likely is it that I could compress, say 720p into under 8Mbs XviD or under 15Mbs for MPEG-2? Do people think it would then magically "just work" on this player....?

If that link doesnt work directly, I'm refering to their PC-P3LWG/DVD

Why is it soooo dirt cheap? Thats what makes me wonder.... Maybe it can only handle all the claimed data rates on a "good day"? ;-)

Get an xbox, install a mod chip, a big hard disk and xmc (xbox media center). Bob's your uncle.
