Having trouble capturing clips, because of copyright on DVDs

Ok, I have a problem here. I'm totally new to creating AMV's. I just bought a TDK indicapture audio/video capture device. The first time I tried to record a clip from a Dragonball Z DVD, it popped up an error message saying that recording was not allowed because of the copyright. I want to know how other people get around this problem! How does everyone else get clips when everything seems to be copyrighted?! PLEASE HELP ME! I don't think we're allowed to discuss that here. So, before the thread gets locked, I'm going to suggest you do a Web search on a topic called Macrovision. This may not solve your problem, but at least you'll know why you have a problem.

There are solutions.

They cost $$$.

Which is why most of the people here are pulling the data directly off the DVDs. See the guides for details. If you're not using Premiere, you might want to check out Scintilla's guide for preparing clips for Movie Maker. I'm pretty sure that's good for other editing software as well.

Well, If you look in the software help forum, there should be a link to AMVapp which is the end all be all for dvd "capturing" to get clips.

I think it sounds like you're trying to capture the video signal using an analog capture card. If you are, macrovision protection on VHS tapes, for example, sets it so that the only thing you will get if you attempt to record the signal is the color bar screen. That's been my experience.

You should try using a DVD ripper program and put the DVD into a DVD ROM and have the computer take the data straight off the disc. Though I'm thinking maybe you don't have a DVD drive or else you wouldn't be resorting to trying to capture the TV signal?
