Slow ripping

Post by Alpha_Hazard » Wed Mar 03, 2004 10:07 pm

So I just got a new DVD Burner, it burns 8 speed and reads at a 24 max. Now, when I rip a DVD I'm getting a maximun of 2.2 speed, whereas with my old drive I got the maximum. Does anybody have any Ideas?

this happens to me aswell. it might be affected by the ide channel its on. if its a slave it ripps slower. also some of the cheeper dvd burners have truble reading at that speed. there was an earlier thread about this
here that should explain this.

ok, I guess that's what happened, come to think of it I'm using a different IDE cable to connect the drive because the original was too short.

I don't know the speed, but I know it's older than the one my computer came with.

hmmm, my dvd drive (slave to my 12x burner) has a max of 16x and i still get a 11x-12x average (though it takes a bit of time to build up to that speed). speed will go down if the disk is dirty and it will fall straight to hell if thier are any significantly painful scratches on it

Sometimes it depends on the encoding/encryption of the DVD.

Most newer DVD drives LIMIT the speed at which you are able to rip dvds. No idea why this is, possibly to discourage pirating. But you can usually download a hacked firmware that will let you rip at the full speed.
