cd rom drive dissapering

im useing win2k and my cdrw drive just disaperad from my computer for no reason and it wouldnt open the cables were all conected it came back after i restarted but it creeped me out. could this have been coused by a bad cable or the drive itself dying or maybe its somekind of software issue anyone have any ideas?

It was probally a problem with windows but definitatly a software problem. Luckily for you it came back when you restarted. A similar incident happened to a friend of mine but it wouldn't come back. As I didn't know how the fix after a few hours of troubleshooting the hardware and software, we decided to just reformat the computer. He hasn't had the problem since...
