I'm shopping around for a good LCD monitor. My price max is at $350, so I think it rules out a lot of them. I want a 17", not a little 15" though. And links would be helpful leading me directly to some good monitors or some links that show some comparisons.

I'd recommend you wait a few months, the really good brands are coming down in price. By the summer, I'm guessing a 17" Samsung (arguably the best LCD on the market) will be within your price range.SephirothJenova wrote:I'm shopping around for a good LCD monitor. Unless you need to get a new monitor (due to a dead/dying monitor, or whatnot), just wait and watch for sales/good prices.

Re: Looking for a good LCD monitor!
firstly, you have to remember (that for reasons unknown to all but god) 15" lcd's actualy have a 17" viewable area, which is kinda wierd but, so is liquid crystal (which isnt actualy "liquid crystal" , seeing as crystal melts at about 3200C). oh and, any good brand monitor should do fine, their generaly isnt too much difference as far as quality is concerned. but make sure that the monitor has a 16ms refresh rate and dvi input (preferably). though itl cost you more for 16ms (as opposed to 24) its well worth it, esspecialy if ya plan to watch anime/dvd's/whatever or play fast games like quake or unreal. oh and, its beter to go out and buy it from a shop instead of an online reitailer seeing as that way its easier to negosiate price, and more importantly check if the monitor has any "dead pixels" (which is basicaly what it sais, the squar is dead, i woent light up, not now not ever). note that all monitors come with a waranty promising a new monitor in case of dead pixels (but conditions of the waranty can be confusing, how many pixels are dead, where they are located on the screed, if thier in a cluster, etc, its could get confusing). and one final thing, shop around, and as long as you can get 16ms and dvi, then their shouldnt be much difference between sony and some brand you havent heard much about. the bigest diference is usualy how much money your contributing to the company ceo's next beach house. and one last final thing, make sure its a good looking monitor, computers are more and more becoming a piece of furniture theys days (esspecialy since case moding took off) so you wouldnt want something that looks like a torture device designed by a blind naziSephirothJenova wrote:I'm shopping around for a good LCD monitor. If you can go a bit higher, Office Depot has a 17" Viewsonic on sale until Saturday (Jan 3): $500 less $100 MIR (mail-in rebate). Add tax, you're looking at $400-something.SephirothJenova wrote:I'm shopping around for a good LCD monitor. My price max is at $350, so I think it rules out a lot of them. NewEgg has several off-brand models at $330-$400 (plus shipping):
