video card on the fritz??
ok this is basicaly a computer question but i think it might deal with my video card as well. since there is no off topic section any more i cant put in there so if this is the wrong section flame me and ill get a mod to move it. all right the question is this: every time i start my computer i keep getting these rows of lines coming down where it loads up saying Windows XP. then every thing is normal after that. then i go to the main screen and it wont happen until a few minutes later usually it happens when i go on the internet or some times when i dont do any thing at all. theres at least four rows of lines except there smaller. my computer screen will turn black and my monitor will go off then it well say its getting no signal. at first i thought it was my monitor but i tried it with my old one and did the same thing. i thought it was my video card touching too closely to the other cards . i opened it up and they were loose but i got them in ok and it still does it. i thought it might of been a virus but the computer guy fixed this problem before and he said it wasnt and said it might of been the video card. (i couldnt understand him at times cause he doesnt speak english that well) i want to know your guy's opinions on this and see if i can fix the problem my self.

If it is from '94 then my guess is that it is an ISA card. Assuming your computer if from the last few years you are going to need a AGP card to test with. Maybe a friend has one you could try?i can try my video card from my old computer which is from 94 if you think that would help? i can try it to at least test it.

ok here's what i reckon the problem is. check what agp modes your agp card suports (1x, 2x, 4x, 8x) and make sure that your vga supports your slots agp mode. also, some agp slots are stated as 4x but true 1x/2x slots and cant run all 4x cards. and basicaly ya just might have a wrong maix anyway, all ya ca do is try a new vid card (and make sure its the right agp mode)

OK, lets get some more info here before you go on.
Was the computer working before, or is this a new build?
Is the computer homebuilt or a pre-manufactured one?
Is the Video card built into the mobo?
What kinda video card is it?
What kinda of mobo is it?
What model is the mobo?
Also list other general specs if you know them.
Other things could be wrong then just the video card/mobo. If you power supply is going bad it could cause the same thing to happen. With a little more info it will be easier for us to help you.
