Looking around for a new computer

Post by Fungie½ » Fri Dec 26, 2003 12:01 am

Okay, I've been looking around for a new computer. This would be the computer that I would be doing my editing on as well as other papers and just random internet browsing. Anyways, I found this one and it looks good to me, but I'm not an expert with computer stuff, so I thought I'd post the specs here and see if you all thought I should change stuff.

Processor: AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2600+ operating at 1.917GHz
Operating System: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition
Memory: 512 MB DDR / PC2700 (1 DIMM)
Hard Drive: 120GB 7200
Primary CD/DVD Drive: 16X Max. DVD-ROM Drive
Secondary CD/DVD Drive: 4X DVD+RW/+R drive (DVD writer & CD-writer combo)
Front Productivity Ports: 2 USB 2.0, 1 IEEE 1394, 7-in-1 reader, ArcSoft Removable Storage: 3.5 in. 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Graphics Card: 64MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX(TM) 440-8X w/TV-out
Sound Card: Integrated 5.1 Capable Sound w/ front audio ports
Monitor: hp pavilion mx703 17" flat screen monitor
Speakers: Harman-Kardon 2-Piece Active Speakers
Keyboard and Mouse: HP Internet Keyboard, HP Scroller Mouse
Application Software: Microsoft(R) Works 7.0/Money 2004/MSN Encarta Plus

All of that plus a printer and a 5 pack of DVD+R's came to $995.76. Is this a good price? Oh and building a computer isn't a good option for me right now, so please don't suggest that ^^;;

The spec's look good. The price isn't bad for a packaged name-brand system. The only possible issue is quality. One of my relatives used to work for HP; he always complained about the quality and reliability of the equipment they got in the office. But, you never know until you get one. They do continue to sell on the retail market, so they must be doing enough that's right.

Well, for one, I'd totally screw it up. I've already broken one computer from trying to install something in it ^_^;;; It wasn't good. Second, I'm a terrible shopper. I go "Oh, look, this is pretty" and put it in my cart. My computer would look great but probably wouldn't work ^^;;;;;

well if u ask what u need to buy and ask if the items u piked out are good then im sure u wont get a shutty comp. and building one isnt hard you just have to connect all the cables and set the jumpers and stuff. its not that hard but if u dont feel confterbel doing it then dont. but from experiance im telling u its not hard
