n00b question: How do I edit DVD movies??

I'm sorry to ask this rather basic question, but I'm used to using Adobe Premier at school and using Tapes Hardware to get the movies onto the computers.
But now I have a new computer, and my Music Vidoe Idea is based on a DVD movie. I have Windows Movie Maker and the DVD; now I just need to know how to get the DVD film onto the computer?
