You need a good video card right? I suggested to a roomate to get more ram, hes got like 512 or lower. But then i thought about 3d rendering (3ds max) woudl probably need a video card, is this right?
just wondering before i send him out to buy ram.

Are you refering to this? Have him find out how much video memory he's got. It says (if I'm reading it all correctly) that it will work with 64MB of video memory, but recommends 256MB. Same with system RAM, will work with 512MB, but recommends 1GB. I've never really worked with 3D programs, other than gaming, so I can't say for sure, but if it's between upgrading the video card or the RAM, probably getting a new video card designed for 3D graphics is going to be top priority. As long as he indeed does have enough RAM, otherwise he might have to upgrade both. Make sure he looks at the system requirements for the program, and knows exactly what his computer has.

Only if you want to be able to work quickly in the UI. A lot of engines still don't offload work onto the graphics card for various reasons.The14thGOD wrote:You need a good video card right?
