Want to buy a video card.

I want to know if it's important to have a good video card.
I want to buy the XFX GeForce FX 5500, but i don't know how that will benefit me with video editing. Can you tell me if I should buy it and why?

The FX series is two generations old now. Get a cheap 6800, it'l serve you well.

Video Cards woent do jack far as video editing is concerned. They only help making things alot pretier when playing games. More ram, sticking two 200GB 200rpm sata disks in a striped raid, geting a dual core cpu. That will make a difference to editing.

There are video cards that can be useful for editing. They're called the "ATI All-In-Wonder" series.

Nvidia sucks anyway. ATI is about to kick their asses into the pre-Cambrian era with Crossfire and the X1800 XT.

If you have media that requires capturing, that is. If all you have is DVDs (like me), then you don't need a capture card.
