/wonders which TI you have - perhaps the 64 meg one? The 128 mb version ran HL2 just great, even on the now-aged Athlon XP1800+ :P

By the way, since we're on video cards - what are the good graphics solutions on laptops these days? I've heard something of mobile X600 cards (never seen one myself), but I haven't heard anything as far as the newest nVidia series....
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Its good to be back.

First of all I doubt I am getting a laptop anytime soon..... Like many people said, its just stupid for someone like me (but hey if you're loaded go for it).
Having said that I know a kid thats like in 6th grade who has a laptop (his dad works for JPL and the dad does use the laptop, but it still belongs to the kid).

Nice to see that this thread has taken off. Hopefully it will help other people who might need a laptop for whatever reasons.

I guess I'll stick it out with a P4 1.4 and MX400.

The latest and greatest notebook graphics card from nVidia would be the 6800 Go..... If you can afford that baby you're just loaded.

Yeah -- there's a reason why Transmeta processors are used in Tablet PCs, as opposed to the power-sucking monsters AMD and Intel churn out with free abandon :P

Aw, what happened to Transmeta and VIA? :P
That's precious...cute even ;).

Nah, I don't have nice things to say about VIA, but Transmeta makes some cool stuff. Namely a processor that runs under 1 Ghz, but still performs admirably and consumes very little power. I seem to recall seeing a "laptop" that wasn't even a foot wide and weighed like 3 lbs.

I'm pretty sure Transmeta or rather one of their design teams is in Austin, but I've never bothered to look. For some reason I can't recall their name though (it's not just "Transmeta") :-?
CENTAUR! Viva la WINCHIP C-#!!! and, I really don't think Transmeta or Via will *EVER* pose a threat to AMD or Intel on the desktop as long as they focus on Small Formfactor pcs.
