Post by DuoEnigma » Mon Jan 24, 2005 7:05 am

My computer usage is pretty high it goes from 80% to a 100%, I scanned for spyware, and viruses, and nothing has come up. does anyone know what is going on?

No, we don't know what is going on.

Perhaps if we knew what was running on your computer?

Try running 'msconfig'. Click Start, Run, and type in 'mscofig'. Run it and check your Startup list. Try disabling all the startups and restart. Check then to see if your CPU usage is still high.

If you're going to do that, disconnect from the internet first. Unplug from your cable modem or whatever, if you're not on dialup.

hit ctrl+alt+del . Click on the proceses tab, then click on "user name" till your account name is on top. Look at all the processes on the right. If theirs anything thats thier more than once close all instances of it (right click> end process).

Run a virus scan. Theirs an online virus scan at www.trendmicro.com (you'l need java installed for that). . You can also download a free trial of pc-cillin.

Also, what spyware scans have you done?

I prefer to use the "holy trinity" of Spybot Search & Destroy, AdAware SE, and CWShredder--all are free downloads.
