Capture cards

Post by Alpha_Hazard » Mon Oct 27, 2003 8:38 pm

so I'm thinking about getting a capture card, but I'm curious as to what will happen if I try to rip a dvd using a dvd player, will it give me that copy protection crap where it fades in and out periodically?

You don't "rip" a DVD with a DVD player, you capture it.

If you wish to rip a DVD, you'd need a DVD-ROM drive.

Depending on your settings, Macrovision may be an obstacle if youn capture. However, ripped footage is typically of higher quality, so you'd be better off simply getting a DVD-ROM drive (if you don't already have one) and pulling the footage directly off of the DVDs.

DVD-ROMs are cheap these days, you can get a high-quality Samsung or Toshiba for around $40.
