This video capture card to input vhs into your computer. Is it an internal device or can it be an external device that can plug in to the back of the computer. I don't want to destroy my computer by installing something that could just as well fry my computer.

You can get USB capture devices. I don't reccomend them.

I believe if you have a FireWire port on your computer then you can use a DV breakout box to capture video in DV format.

Most PCs don't come with a FireWire port though.

You probably have a DVD-drive in which case you can rip the video directly off a DVD. Check out the AMV Guides link in my sig for info on doing so.
