How do you hook up a PS2 to your computer for capturing?

Post by Bushido Philosopher » Tue Dec 17, 2002 4:03 pm

So how would I go about doing this?
I would test it out with trial and error but the capture hardware is on a computer at another house.

Can anyone help?

Plug the outputs from the PS2 into the inputs in the capture card/video card/whatever you use to import video from an external source.

hmm...i remember there's only either an iLink or USB slot that can receive data from an external source.

i wouldn't be able to use the iLink port in the PS2 would I??
and if not, is there an adapter or something I can buy?

Onto what sort of computer are you trying to capture the footage?

what sony calls i.LINK is, IIRC, firewire. if there's no analog capture card (you'll know it, it's got the yellow/red/white plugs and an S-Video one as well), you may want to invest in a breakout box to handle analog source capture. Of course, there could be a way to do DV out from the PS2, but I wouldn't know - I don't have one.

Yeah, I basically agree with iserlohn. Firewire video capture boxes are relatively economical these days, and PCI capture cards are dirt cheap if you know where to look - so if you're planning to capture video regularly, you may want to invest in a good piece of capture hardware.

Alternately, if you plan to edit a lot of video, you can spend a bit more and get a prosumer solution with video inputs and outputs, as well as hardware video processing abilities.

If you're still not sure that you want to devote years to this, something cheap. Otherwise, sell your soul to pinnacle =)

If you have a TV card in your computer you can run a line from your VCR to the computer and hook the PS2 up to the VCR, thats how I do it.
