Specific Audio rendering in VDubMod help..

Post by uchihaclan13 » Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:50 pm

I'm making an AMV for the upcoming FanimeCon and it has some specific audio requirements...

• Please use layer-II audio at 224 kilobits per second or better
• Choose stereo over joint stereo for best quality
• Do not use layer-III or MP3, as our hardware cannot decode this
We have a lot of hard drive space available and would rather sacrifice size over quality.
If you're unsure of how or what resolution/frame rate/bit rate/audio settings to choose, please send the source file and let us do the conversion for you.

I usually follow the this guide http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... audio.html in order to encode my audio, but it uses LAME Mp3 codec, and apparentally, it's not allowed. Is there an alternative audio codec in VDubMod that is layer-2 that I can use for this?

I assume you are submitting a MPEG-1/2 file? If so, you should follow this: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... audio.html

If you are submitting an AVI file, I don't think those are subject to the MP2 (MPEG-1 layer-II audio) restriction. BUT, your file will most likely be re-encoded to MPEG-2 video/MP2 audio, with some resultant quality loss.

Here's what to do to encode MP2 audio using BeSweet (I believe the default AMVapp install has the proper encoders installed):

Follow the steps of EADFAG's Using BeSweet to Compress Your Audio (MP3), but you'll need to setup MP2 encoding first. Click on the 2Lame button on the right side to configure the MP2 encoder. You'll want to make sure that in Output Options (lower left corner), Encoding Mode is set to Stereo and Total Bitrate is at least 224 (valid settings are 32, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256, 320 and 384 kbit/s). You should probably go for the gusto and set it to 384. Leave everything unchecked except those options and Add Error Protection in Misc (which should be on by default). Finally, you can select which encoder does the work; tooLame or MP2ENC. I prefer tooLame.

Now go back to the BeSweet main interface by clicking on the BeSweet button at the far right, and in the box below the BeSweet Profiles (in the image in EADFAG it's says Lame with MP3 under it), click on the drop down button and select MP2 from that list.

Then just follow the rest of the guide the same way as encoding MP3s by selecting your source WAV and all other options. Finally click green the WAV to MP2 button.

Mux your audio and video together and you're done!
