General doubt (please spend some of your time with :x)

Post by Kawatta-kun » Tue Dec 11, 2007 9:51 am

I'm a n00b to encode, like, i don't know a thing :x just worked how to put subs in AVI files (i was part of one fansub), but never knew how to make better quality.

My amv's were done at Windows Movie Maker. But recently i've put some "crop" on them, on Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 (the program i use now), and saved as WMV again, because everything is bigger.

How can i put it on AVI and with great quality?
Like, what do I have to do, what do I have to have, every steps...

PS: As codecks packs I use K-lite Mega Codeck Pack and CCCP.

I hope you can help me ^^ some tutrials on the steps would be great.
Help me getting better on better quality amv's ^^;

I'd recommend getting rid of k-lite, you shouldn't need it and it'l most likely just end up causing problems

for encoding, Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides.
the section on encoding is at the bottom, but it's good to read the other stuff first

if you're adventurous you may want to try compressing to .mp4. I use meGUI but if you're not quite sure what to do, I'd get Zarx264GUI (part of the amvapp v3 in eadfag beta)

just for quick comparison, when I encoded blue trailer I did both an avi (using xvid) and mp4 (using x.264) version
the .mp4 version turned out to be about half the size of the avi version (and still looked better imo)

In mp4 i can't, at the moment my pc is just too old :x in fact i can't do any "great" amv's yet cause my pc is unable to do that, i'm whaiting for a new one, when i don't know.

So, mean while, i learn how to encode in avi, some old videos/mav's, and maybe future ones, neh? ^^

Thanks, and I promisse i'll read it!

I'll come back posting.

are you saying you can't use avisynth or the zarxgui program? or your computer just won't play them back? if it's the second one you can always send a test file to a friend and see if it works on their computer...

if you want at least decent quality from Vegas you are going to want to export as high quality as possible... uncompressed or huffyuv or lagarith would be the top choices and they go from largest file size to smallest file size... Another thing is all three will still make over 1gb files more than likely. Then to compress just follow these guides and compress your Video and your Audio.
