problem compressing to xvid format...

Post by Rider4Z » Sat Oct 06, 2007 6:15 pm

normally i've never had any problem compressing my avi files from premiere with virtual dub mod. but this is the first amv i've made in widescreen format, and i wonder if that has anything to do with it not allowing me to compress it in xvid format.

here's what i've been doing, in adobe premiere, my footage is interpreted as widescreen 16:9 format. then i export my video in square pixel format so it comes out in letterbox, but in the right shape. then i use a script to crop the top and bottom bars in virtual dub and save it as a huffyuv file. it ends up being a 3gig file (of course) but it's exactly how i want it to be.

however if i use the script for saving it as xvid, i get an error message. so i tried compressing the huffyuv file into xvid and i got
"Error decompressing video frame 0: An unknown error occured (may be corrupt data) (error code -100)". i played the huffyuv file in wmp and it played fine. so i saved another copy in huffyuv format, but i still got the same message.

then i tried using the original footage (without audio) exported from premiere (letterbox form) and then adding the audio stream all to virtual dub, it only saves the audio file, the video file is missing.

all of this has never been a problem before, but this IS the first widescreen format amv i've made. is that the problem?

can anyone help me? is there another program i can try? or another format even?

1) <img src="http://www.aquilinestudios.org/postyourscript.gif">

2) Is the HuffYUV file in the RGB32 or YUY2 colorspace?

3) What resolution is the HuffYUV file?

All right, it looks like that 385-pixel height may be your problem. XviD, like all other MPEG-4 codecs, has problems with resolutions that aren't even.

I'm guessing that the script didn't work because you cropped the height down to 330, which isn't even 0 mod 4, much less 0 mod 16.

384 is your safest bet, since it's an even multiple of 16.
