avi into more editablr codec?

Hey all i was wondering is there a way to convert an .avi file into a more editable codec like lagarith?(spelling might be off)

open the video file in virtualdub mod go to video->compression-> Lagarith->File->save

1) Will this allow me to import avi files into vegas?

2) Do you think this is better than converting the avi file to wmv?

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room

make small clips instead of converting the whole thing
and lagarith > wmv in all ways especially when it comes to using it in Vegas

(last time i used wmv in vegas i wanted to pull out my hair)

can someone help me i just rendered an avi file using the lagarith codec and i cant play it in vlc theres only sound

can you play it in Vegas?
if the answer is yes then thats what matters

also lagarith and huffyuv files usually wont play back properly in media players, because they are too big and most computers dont have the processing speed
