OK Iv tried for the past two days to extract the video from an mkv with no success here is what I have tried
1. MKVExtractgui
Loaded it in selected track 1 only for video I get this message
(V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC) is an unknown format please write the output extension
I have tried every out put I could think of, tried leaving is as just an mkv nothing. I click save and in half a second it says file saved successfully, But there is nothing (I literally mean nothing no file there’s just nothing)
I tried saving more then just the video file:
Warning: The extraction of video tracks is only supported for RealVideo (CodecID
: V_REAL/RVxx) and AVI compatibility tracks (CodecID: V_MS/VFW/FOURCC). The track 1 will be skipped.
2. So I downloaded another extractor AviMuxGUI again.. nothing I couldn’t even get that to load the mkv
3. So I loaded up VLC player to do a transcode I tried just changing the container (tried all of them) nothing I tried an actual codec transcode (all of them ) still nothing, With this I get an actual file but the file contains nothing that I can see, I try playing it it runs through the time line, but no audio or video
4. VirtualDubMod the file will not open in vdub, so I wrote the directstreem script
<i>directshowsource("C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\folder\1.mkv")</i>
When I make that a .avs and put it into VDUB I get this:
<img src="http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a164/ ... berror.jpg">
The Video Codec Of the file is v_mpeg4/iso/avc it has both English and Japanese audio and english subtitles so all together there is 4 tracks but I only really want the video. The mkv plays fine in VLC I really don’t know much about these kinds of things but Iv been working on this for 2 days now and searching this forum for a few hours iv done almost every suggestion I could find, and although it worked for those people it didn’t for me, if any one would have any idea how I can extract this so that I can convert to either lossy or avi in vdub (or any other program) I really would appreciate it, either way, thanks for reading this rant

A) You're using an old, crotchety version of MKVExtractGUI. Either use the newest one on CoreForge, or use the command-line version that comes with MKVToolNix. Either way, you'll need to put it back in MP4 or MKV to make the thing usable (as I don't suggest using DGAVCDec right now). Alternately, you can load it up in mkvmerge GUI (also a part of MKVToolNix), deselect everything but the video stream, and create a new file. Then use DirectShowSource with just that.
B) VLC isn't a DirectShow player. To use DirectShowSource it needs to be able to play in Windows Media Player. You'll need to use ffdshow (take your pick from one of the 2007 builds), and Haali's Media Splitter (DO NOT let it split AVI files). If you want to simplify that, install the CCCP, just be aware that the version of ffdshow they provide is more than likely not as recent as the one I linked to, and it's also stripped of the VFW interface - which comes in handy for things like encoding MJPEG or YV12-mode HuffYUV.
