Compression Issue

Post by InusLonelySoul » Fri Apr 20, 2007 12:07 pm

I recently completed a project, but the filesize is too large. I tried to open in it VDM and I get this message... 'Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'dvsd'(unknown). VirtualDub requires a Video for WIndow (VFW) compatable codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video.'

Did I save it in the wrong format perhaps? *confused*

If you open your video through AviSynth via DirectShowSource(), VirtualDub(Mod) will accept it.

You do have a DV codec (dvsd) on your computer, but it's Microsoft's and it's a DirectShow codec. VirtualDub(Mod) by itself will only work with Video for Windows (VfW) codecs. If you install one of the DV codecs Kariudo linked to, VDM can directly open the video. The Panasonic VFW DV codec is the one which most people recommend, and it's the one most of those links point to.
