if they aren't fansubs, don't rip to divx/xvid/3ivx

now that that is out of the way...
you're going to re-encode your footage using
virtualDub, or virtualDubMod (but development on vdubmod stopped some time ago,) using a lossless codec such as
lagarith.
Be aware that lossless = big files
For that reason, you don't want to re-encode entire episodes. The recommended way is to make your clips using vdub

use those to mark the beginning and the end of the "clips" you want so you can save room
if you still see the "trial ended" message in vdub, then you'll want to uninstall the 3ivx codec, and install
CCCP.
Doing so should get rid of that message. If it doesn't, you're screwed
