Regarding Huffyuv and Windows Explorer crashes

Post by LC_Lapen » Wed Apr 23, 2008 11:01 am

Hello.

I've been encountering a very big problem lately. I recently started gathering anime footage for an AMV that I'm creating, but everytime I export the footage from VirtualDub or VirtualDubmod in the Huffyuv compression codec, the resulting file screws up my computer. Whenever I try to open the folder I save it to, I get this message:

Image

and the screen closes itself. I thought it was something I did or didn't do in the diagnostics, but even files that I'd saved to a disk over a year ago in Huffyuv (I recently underwent a computer reformat) refused to load and crashed the screen too. I know that it's Huffyuv that's doing this because whenever I try Uncompressed or Xvid it doesn't give me the error.

So what should I do?

All I know to suggest is either reinstalling Huffyuv or using Lagarith. Lagarith files are smaller anyway - it just takes longer to encode (to my knowledge).
... yea ...

I've both uninstalled Huffyuv and re-installed all avalible versions. The problem still consists. However, there was one in the "Add or Remove Programs" list, and one in the AMVapp that I downloaded. Could the problem be related?

Also, I would use Lagarith if I could. But as I mentioned, I have video files saved as Huffyuv on a disk, and I need to at least get my computer to a point where it won't error me just for looking at a Huffyuv file.

Ah, and RAM is fine.

Related note: sometimes the error triggers "Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger".

or FFDShow is trying to decode the thumbnails while Huffyuv is also trying to decode it?

if this is the case go into FFDshow and disable it for huffyuv (and any other codecs you have on your computer)
