im trying to convert a DVD-ripped file to an .avi because just as a .mkv, on vdubmod, no sound is heard. i want the audio/talking included for just this one part, few seconds, so i wanna convert it to .avi. but then it doesnt work. it says my .avi is corrupted.
i use super© to convert.
i think if use huffy codec, it'll be toooooooooooo huge.

First, if you want to make AMV with your file, do not use Super.
Second, I suppose that your DVD-ripped file are .vob
-Open them with DGIndex.(highlight all of them in order)
-save the new file (DG will make .d2v and .avs file to play with, along with .ac3 audio file)
-then, open the .avs in Vdub mod.
-Clean it (deinterlace, etc.)
-Convert the audio file with BeSweet (.mp3)
-Stream the newly converted audio in VDubMod
-Now, if you want to make an amv, convert the vdub project with Lagarith or huffy.
-Or, if you just want the anime, convert it with Xvid (it will take less room on your hard drive)

I think what Wished means is that he has already mkv files... So what you want to do is demux the mkv files. Try using MKVExtractGUI
After you demux (don't worry it usually doesn't take long) you can do what you want with the video and audio. There is a thing with the audio and video codec used though and you might have to install these codecs (for example AC3 or whatever) in order to use the files. BTW being able to watch the mkv in VLC doesn't mean you have any codecs installed...
You can find it here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtractGUIMKVEXtractGUI is a demultiplexer that allow you to demux mkv streams, split video, audio and subtitle to separate files, from an MKV file.
