Getting higher quality from DVD-ripped DivX footage.. help

Post by feiticiera » Wed Jan 29, 2003 2:26 pm

Hi. i realise that this may have already been asked here or somewhere else before, but i do not visit the forums very often, and i do not have the time to search through and find it... a simple post redirecting me would be nice, or any help you could possibly offer would be greatly apreciated..

i downloaded the princess mononoke divx rip. there is definate quality loss, and when i try to work with it in premiere, it gets worse. and when my hard drive crashed a while back i lost my project file for a vid i was nearly finished. i was able to get the beta back from a friend, but it's encoded at average quality using the divx5 codec. now is there anyway i can try and restore the quality without having to totally redo the vid? it's already about three minutes and twenty seconds done... i really don't want to have to try to redo this... if there is anyway i can boost the quality in these video files, then please.. let me know, or direct me to a guide where i can learn how..

once again thank you.. :)

We discourage the downloading of animes to make videos. Buy the DVD. You can get Princess Mononoke anywhere that sells electronics. Then use the Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides to learn to rip the DVD.

hey buddy if you were a noob id flame the shit out of you but you're a friend so I can supply that info.

try running it through some filters like 2Dcleaner or SmartSmootherHQ to get rid of any artifacting that might be in the beta. Some other good ones are Convolution 3D which smooths temporally and spatially and WarpSharp which sharpens the edges of objects without increasing frequencies. Similarly theres Msharpen which sharpens the whole image instead of just edges in a similar way that warpsharp does.

all the info is actually right here:

And of course using DivX for source is a really bad idea in the first place. Try to always use something that isn't lossy.

Let's just be clear on this, Is it ok to download the anime if you own the DVD but lack the hardward to rip it...

Which isn't my case, but for future reference.

if you lack the hardware to rip or capture it why are you making amvs? is the question. Not to mention if you've got a computer capable of decent editing you should have a dvd-rom. Thats kind of a lame loop hole :\

It was just a question. I rip my own stuff, I'm actually re-ripping hellsing right now because I screwed up the first time :'(. Then I have to re-do Cowboy Bebop, then I have to do lain, then I can make my Video... Thank god for Batch Encoding :)
